Communications Team Opportunities

Director Communications (Governance)

The PMIHR Director of Communications aids the VP of Communications in maintaining effective communication with chapter members and the general public, promoting chapter activities, and managing the chapter's online presence. The Director ensures consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels, fostering engagement and providing timely information about events, initiatives, and opportunities. 

Prerequisites / Skills:

  • Membership in PMIHR Chapter
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with social media platforms and content creation
  • Ability to manage and maintain chapter monthly newsletter
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Time Commitment:

10 - 15 hours a month

Education Team Opportunities

Study Group Instructor

The PMI Hampton Roads (PMIHR) Study Group Instructor is responsible for leading and facilitating scheduled certification study groups and professional development learning cohorts. This includes welcoming new participants, providing orientation to the study program, and helping learners navigate available resources and study materials. Instructors may support a variety of PMI certifications and professional development programs, including PMP®, CAPM®, PMI-ACP®, PMI-CP™, CPMAI, and other emerging credentials aligned with the needs of the chapter membership.

The instructor will provide study materials, recommended resources, and guidance on obtaining current reference materials, including PMI publications and certification-specific content. Most importantly, the instructor serves as a mentor, facilitator, and advocate for learner success by creating an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Prerequisites / Skills:

  • Membership in PMIHR Chapter
  • Support the Annual PDC Event
  • Digital communications (email, social media, group chat apps, group scheduling software, etc.) 
  • Knowledge of PMP Exam and PMP Certification preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of study methods and best practices
  • Ability to communicate with groups (sharing dates, times, and subjects)
  • Ability to Interact with military community as needed

Time Commitment:

8 - 10 hours a month (2 study sessions per month of 1 hour per, 2 hours prep/comms per study group)

Marketing Team Opportunities

Director Social Media

The PMIHR Director of Social Media enhances the PMI Hampton Roads Chapter's brand visibility and digital presence by developing and executing strategic marketing initiatives. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this role focuses on increasing awareness, boosting social media engagement, and growing membership through targeted content and promotional campaigns. All activities must adhere to PMI policies, chapter bylaws, brand guidelines, and global marketing strategy.

Prerequisites / Skills:

  • Membership in PMIHR Chapter
  • Expertise in marketing strategies and social media best practices
  • Proficiency in digital advertising and content creation tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized approach
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools and techniques

Time Commitment:

10 - 15 hours a month (2 study sessions per month of 1 hour per, 2 hours prep/comms per study group)
