Ranzy Gammal Memorial Scholarship

We, the members of PMI Hampton Roads, are honored to sponsor the Ranzy Gammal Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship not only celebrates her life and leadership but also honors her legacy as a two-term PMIHR Board Member and former Chapter President. She passed peacefully in November 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. This scholarship represents a born fighter with a generous spirit who inspired not only her friends but also countless colleagues. May her enduring impact continue to guide and uplift all who follow in her footsteps.

About Ranzy

  • Here career began in information systems management and transitioned into project management in 1998.

  • She has led projects around the world, including in Europe, Asia, and across the United States for a multinational firm.

  • She helped create the inaugural PMO for a national firm in the Hampton Roads area and later served as PMO Director for a healthcare management company in Virginia Beach.

  • A certified PMP, she worked across many areas of project management, including distribution, manufacturing, advertising, healthcare, local government, and many more.

  • A dedicated professional, she gave back to the project management community by serving as a committed leader in the PMIHR organization since 2003, including her services as Chapter President.

Her impact endures in the professionals and communities she uplifted.

Scholarship Overview

  • Amount: $2,500 (awarded annually)

  • Purpose: Assist students who are pursuing a degree in project management or another project‑driven field by providing financial support, encouragement, and opportunities that help them advance their education and career goals.

Eligibility

·         Applicants must be enrolled in, or applying to, an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in the field of project management (they must not have already graduated).

·         Applicants may also be enrolled in a field that benefits from project management, such as architecture, engineering, information technology, business administration, construction, human  resources, educational administration, hospitality, pharmaceutical studies, and similar disciplines.

·         Applicants must not hold a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

·         Applicants must live within driving distance of the Hampton Roads area, as the award is personally presented to the recipient.

  • Include a 500–750 word essay explaining why you should be selected.

  • Deadline: October 1, 2026.

Previous Awardees

2023 Recipient: Thomas Jowers III is pursuing a Bachelor's degree at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in Business Administration with a focus on project management. He is a native of Hampton Roads. Thomas is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and the Phi Sigma Pi Fraternity. He has a strong focus and passion for projects, both personal and professional. Thomas is passionate about creating and manifesting thoughts and ideas into actual plans of action and execution. His keys to success are hard work, dedication, excitement for learning, and developing new skills. Thomas would like to continue his learning journey by obtaining his PMP after he graduates.







 2022 Recipient: Justin Newhouse graduated from Old Dominion University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Leadership. He currently attends East Carolina University where he has earned a graduate certificate in the Management of Information Systems and will be graduating with his Master of Business Administration in the spring of 2023. Justin has nearly 10 years of experience working in the AEC industry as a land surveyor technician. In 2020, Justin transitioned careers and is currently employed by the County of Gloucester as a Budget and Accounting Analyst where he aims to make an impact using business analysis and project management techniques. He resides in Gloucester County with his wife and two daughters.
