PMIHR Highlights
A Message from Our President, René Rosenberg
The Chapter Business Update from our March PMI Hampton Roads Chapter Meeting focused on strengthening member value, expanding engagement opportunities, and positioning the chapter for future growth. Leadership encouraged feedback on the new venue as part of a broader commitment to continuously enhance the member experience.
A key highlight included the upcoming PMI Global membership change in 2027, which is expected to significantly increase local chapter membership. In preparation, the chapter is focused on scaling programming, increasing networking opportunities across both the Peninsula and Southside, and reinforcing access to education, certifications, and professional development offerings. Members were also encouraged to take advantage of upcoming events, including hybrid meetings, new member orientations, AI-focused sessions, and additional Pints & PDUs.
From an operational perspective, the chapter continues to grow, with approximately 1,800 members and steady new member and certification momentum. The update reinforced the importance of the chapter’s volunteer-driven model, with several open leadership and director roles available to support continued expansion.
We are also excited to welcome Kendra Carter as our new Director of Local Communities for the Peninsula. In this role Kendra will focus on engaging directly with our Peninsula membership, ensuring we are addressing your needs, gathering feedback, and helping shape additional events, programs, and opportunities that enhance overall member value. Strategic initiatives such as Communities of Practice (Excel, AI, and potential Power BI), mentorship programs, company coordinator engagement, and military and student outreach reflect a strong focus on career advancement, skill development, and community impact.
Overall, the chapter business update reinforced PMIHR’s position as a dynamic, member-focused organization building the infrastructure and programming needed to successfully support its next phase of growth.

Monthly PMI Hampton Roads Board Meeting
Closed Meeting – Board of Directors
Not every important chapter event comes with networking and appetizers. The PMI Hampton Roads Board of Directors meets on the second Wednesday of each month to handle the strategic, financial, and operational work that keeps the chapter moving in the right direction. The next virtual Board meeting will take place on April 8, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The meeting is closed, but if you have a topic the Board should consider, you are encouraged to reach out to the Chapter President at [email protected].
15-Apr-2026 Chapter Meeting (Virginia Beach / Hybrid)
Project management has always been about getting the impossible done, it just looks a little different now. Join PMI Hampton Roads on April 15, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Topgolf Virginia Beach, 5444 Greenwich Rd., Virginia Beach, VA, for a session with Jon McGlothian, President of TMOG, LLC.
In “The Evolution of Project Management: From the Gaza Temple to AI,” Jon, bringing over 30 years of experience and multiple PMI certifications, will trace how the discipline has evolved from ancient construction efforts to today’s AI-supported environments. The takeaway is simple: the tools change, but the responsibility grows. Today’s project manager is not just managing tasks—they are shaping outcomes in increasingly complex systems. Education and Self-development

Some professional development asks for a travel budget, a hotel, and half your calendar; this one just asks you to log in. PMXPO 2026 is PMI’s premier free virtual event, scheduled for March 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. EDT, and built to help project professionals step up their skills, knowledge, and impact. PMI highlights a full agenda of speakers and sessions, plus access to learning, networking, and PDUs for those looking to stay sharp in a fast-changing profession. Register here
PMIHR Communities of Practice (COP's)
Let’s just say if an event shows up twice in the newsletter, it is not by accident. Our Communities of Practice are some of the most practical learning opportunities we offer, built to foster collaboration, shared knowledge, and skill development that translates directly to better workplace performance. If you are interested in joining any of the Communities of Practice below, reach out to our VP of Professional Development at [email protected]
The AI Community of Practice meets March 24th from 6:00–7:00 p.m., giving members a chance to explore AI skills, tools, and practical use cases in an open, low-pressure format. The next meeting of the Excel Community of Practice will be April 16th from 6:00–7:00 p.m.
PMIHR Weekly PMP Study Group
Let’s be honest: if the PMP exams were easy, it would not mean much. That is why our PMP Study Group meets every Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. to help members prepare with purpose and stay on track toward certification. And if you already have your credential, do not disappear into the mist—come join us and keep those skills sharp. For more information, reach out to [email protected].
PMIHR Mentoring Program
Good mentoring can save people years of learning everything the hard way. That is the heart of our mentoring team's mission: to give PMI Hampton Roads members seeking individual development through 1:1 mentoring a chance to learn project management best practices and grow their ability to deliver successful outcomes. Mentoring is important because books, courses, and certifications all matter—but there is still no substitute for real guidance from someone who has lived the work, made mistakes, solved problems, and learned what actually holds up under pressure. Ready to get started? Sign up to be a mentor and/or mentee.
Volunteer Opportunities
Chapters do not run on good intentions alone—they run on volunteers. If you are ready to make an impact on PMI Hampton Roads and the broader profession, we would love to hear from you. Volunteering is a chance to contribute, develop new skills, and help shape the experience of fellow members. And if the right role is not open today, that is not the end of the story. Opportunities open throughout the year, and completing the volunteer interest questionnaire will place you in the pool for future consideration. For more information about available roles, reach out to the VP of Volunteers.
Call for Pints & PDUs Speakers!
Every project manager has at least one lesson learned they wish someone had told them sooner. If you have practical insight worth sharing, PMIHR would love to hear from you. We are seeking speakers for upcoming Pints & PDUs events who can bring real-world perspectives on project management, leadership, risk, change management, business analysis, emerging trends, or other useful topics that help professionals grow. Speaking is a great way to give back, expand your professional visibility, and contribute to the chapter in a setting that is more conversation than lecture. To apply, submit a brief proposal with your topic title, a 2–3 sentence description, and a short bio through the Call for Speakers Application on the chapter events page, or contact Eric Oitzman at vpprofessionaldevelopment@pmihr.org.
Help Us Train Future PMPs!
If we want strong PMPs tomorrow, we need strong instructors today. PMIHR Study Group Instructors lead scheduled PMP Study Groups, onboard new members, and provide the study materials and resource guidance students need, including information on accessing the latest PMBOK. As the new PMBOK release drives increased demand for refreshed content and stronger preparation, our need for instructors is growing right along with it. If you are ready to give back and help prepare future PMPs, we would love to have you on the team.
Do you Have PMI Specialized Certifications? If So, We Need You!
Turns out PMI did not stop at PMP, and frankly, neither should we. PMI offers a strong bench of specialized certifications, including PMI-ACP for agile practitioners, PMI-PBA for business analysis, PMI-RMP for risk professionals, PMI-SP for scheduling specialists, PgMP for program leaders, PfMP for portfolio professionals, and PMI-CP for construction. These credentials recognize deeper expertise in disciplines that students often struggle to translate from theory into practice.
That is where you come in. If you hold one of these certifications, consider joining the Education team and helping prepare the next wave of PMP candidates. We need practitioners who can explain not only what the answer is, but why it matters in the real world. If that sounds like your kind of volunteer work, we would be glad to have you. Please reach out to our VP of Education, Mr. Kip Malone.
Support Transitioning Service Members at the 757 Career Summit
If you are working as a project manager in the civilian sector, WE NEED YOU! PMIHR is looking for project managers to support the "757 Career Summit," an event hosted by Hampton Roads Veterans Employment Center (HRVEC). This is a two-day event where contributors will talk one-on-one with military participants and participate in a town hall Q&A discussion. Future event dates and locations are: May 13/14 at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, September 9/10 at Joint Base Eustis and November 18/19 at Naval Station Norfolk. Reach out to our Military Liaison Director at [email protected] to volunteer or for more information!
